We designed the GCS Handlebar to balance precise steering, controlled compliance, low weight and the strength required for committed gravity riding. We’re therefore pleased to see those qualities recognised in an independent review from off.road.cc.
Following extensive testing, reviewer Liam Mercer awarded the GCS Handlebar 9/10, describing it as:
“Handlebar excellence that blends compliance, stiffness, weight and style.”
Direct control without excessive harshness
One of our principal objectives for the GCS was to create an aluminium handlebar that feels immediate and accurate without transmitting unnecessary trail vibration to the rider.
The review found that the GCS delivers a stiff, precise feel through the steering plane while effectively reducing the sting of persistent trail chatter. It remains comfortable without sacrificing the direct connection between the rider’s hands and the front wheel.
Its seven-degree backsweep also encourages an engaged position over the front of the bike. This supports traction and accurate steering when riding steep descents, rough sections and rapidly changing terrain.
Lightweight, tested aluminium construction
The GCS Handlebar tested by off.road.cc weighed 294g—an impressively low figure for an 800mm aluminium gravity handlebar.
We manufacture the GCS from recyclable, high-strength 7000-series aluminium. It has also passed the EFBE TRI-TEST® GR testing standard for the demands of gravity, freeride and downhill riding.
The review highlighted the durability of its shot-peened finish, which resisted marks from control installation and riding incidents throughout the test period.
Purposeful geometry and setup options
The GCS is available with:
- 800mm starting width, with cutting guides down to 720mm
- 7° backsweep
- 5° upsweep
- 20mm or 40mm rise
- 31.8mm or 35mm clamp diameter
- Silver or black finish
Clear centre and control-position markings make it easier to adjust the handlebar’s roll, position the controls and create a precise, repeatable cockpit setup.
The GCS can be used as a standalone handlebar or combined with our GCS Stem and GCS Performance Grips to create a complete PEMBREE cockpit.
Performance that justifies its position
The review acknowledged that the GCS sits at the premium end of the aluminium-handlebar market. However, it concluded that the combination of low weight, certified strength, controlled comfort, durable finishing and direct handling justified that position.
The reviewer’s final assessment was unambiguous: he would buy and recommend the GCS Handlebar.
We created the GCS for riders who want a clear connection with the front wheel and confidence when the trail becomes steep, fast or technical. Receiving a 9/10 rating from an experienced independent reviewer is a welcome confirmation that it delivers what we set out to achieve.
